WisDOT Needs To Get Highway 164 Right! [Sussex Sun Editorial].
In the November 11, 2009 Sussex Sun, an editorial harshly criticized the WisDOT for its failure to fully consider our reasonable alternatives instead of widening Highway 164 and for not thoroughly considering the environmental impacts of this project. Also, they were highly critical of the WisDOT's failure to hold a proper public hearing during the Highway 164 EIS process.
Given the many problems that Judge Adelman found with the environmental documents associated with the Highway 164 expansion project (i.e. the EIS, ROD, and the two Section 404 wetland filling permits — all of which were vacated by the judge's recent ruling), this Sussex Sun editorial concluded that the WisDOT should not appeal this decision and instead "lick its wounds, get its act together, and make sure the letter of the law is followed."
This sounds like some very good advice and WisDOT would be smart to take it! Please read this editorial in the attached PDF file below.
